Hating on Crocs
August 6th, 2008 by CatMost of you already know I’ve joined the Crocs craze, admittedly late.
I was one of those Crocs-bashers, who made fun — still do! — of people who think bright pink plastic clogs go with anything. (They don’t!)

Look who’s wearing Crocs these days!
Just spend some time in Waikiki — where a new retail shop opened recently on Kalakaua Avenue — and you’ll see just how far the trend has gone.
Japanese tourists can’t get enough of these colorful footwear, donning them with sun dresses and golf pants. It’s incredible!
Now, I don’t hate Crocs, not the way people do on the popular I Hate Crocs blog or writer Steve Tuttle does in his rant in Newsweek last week. I just think they’re the kind of footwear you need to consider twice before wearing.
You shouldn’t wear them to a job interview — unless you’re applying to be a deckhand on a sailboat. And you might want to avoid escalators. (Kids are getting these soft shoes caught in the escalator teeth and suffering injuries.)
It’s about one thing, as quoted in a hilarious video parody on YouTube: “I’ve given fashion the finger.”
Here’s the vid!
So if you’ve got ‘em, wear ‘em. Just know not everyone will appreciate your fashion choices.

I agree, Croc’s are for kids. Well, some ladies too but guys, think twice before wearing those shoes. Just look at GWB, he looks silly!

You probably don’t want to wear them to a job interview but they are the perfect thing for gardening and yardwork though — which I believe was their original intent.

Don’t like’m cause they make your feet sweat and comes very slippery, besides, it’s slippery in the first place. If you bought one for me, , I’d give to someone
to use…..
August 6th, 2008 at 6:30 am
CAT,
Not for me, as book2 says too much plastic makes foot sweaty! Guess that is why most people wear socks with them. I am more S&M with leather sandals. Rubbah slippah for washing car, gardening, workin in dirt, going beach, etc. They are cute though on little kids.
Fortunately this fashion trend is not made of real crocs. Unfortunately, they are made from oil. Maybe getas will come back in fashion or straw zori??

Love em’ too death.
I’ve got small feet, but they are wide and it’s impossible to find shoes (stylish or not) that can fit my width.
I don’t care what people say about them, if it’s comfortable for me and will get me through the day, then….THUMBS UP!
August 6th, 2008 at 7:19 am
too = to
what a horrific error, my mother would be so disappointed in me.
August 6th, 2008 at 7:30 am
I like my crocs, I have the ones that looks like slippas not the ones pictured in the blog.
August 6th, 2008 at 7:37 am
I have sexy Crocs: http://shop.crocs.com/pc-1174-4-cyprus.aspx?reqid=1174&reqProdTypeId=41p&subsectionname=footwear§ion=products
I know you think that’s impossible, but it’s TRUE! I have these in bronze. I wanna sell these 10.5s because they killed my bunion…but I think they’d be perfect for someone who wants to show a little leg in a sexy Croc!
August 6th, 2008 at 8:00 am
i’m not a croc fan . . . but whatever floats your boat! and like i commented before when you first blogged about jumping on the croc band-wagon . . . at least they make cuter styles now!! i’m more of a high heel kinda girl . . . even if my feet are killing me - at least i look cute! hahaha . . . i do wear slippers though . . . around the house, and a small wedge one when i’m feeling bummy when i go out!
August 6th, 2008 at 8:15 am
i don’t particularly care for them and don’t have a problem with those who do wear them…..when appropriate.
and like you pointed out Cat….you gotta have some sense of when to wear them. it’s okay to wear them at home, to the beach or just casually stompin around town.
but a few of my co-workers wear them in the office. c’mon!
unless they look like Paula’s sexy crocs.
wait….scratch that. the women in my office that wear the crocs would look even weirder in those. ugh
damn….now i have some bizarre images in my mind.
August 6th, 2008 at 8:18 am
Mamas, don’t let your cowboys grow up to wear clogs.
August 6th, 2008 at 8:19 am
PS I think W’s Crocs are steel toed.
August 6th, 2008 at 8:22 am
doh! forgot to change my name back from yesterday when the blogs were all funky.
aigoo….another shameless plug for O&E.
August 6th, 2008 at 9:29 am
In reality, Hawaii is so laid back on fashion - people can wear just about anything and get away with it in public - why not wear crocs? Men wearing speedos on the beach - why not goofy looking slippers to match! Be totally fashion retarded!
August 6th, 2008 at 10:49 am
I’m curious. Who’s picture is that on the left? Is that Jack Nicholson?
I don’t wear crocs and I don’t have any problems with people wearing them as long as it’s appropriate attire. I like the crocs that Paula provided the link to. Quite stylish.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:06 am
I love Crocs. I am wearing them as I type! The thing is, there are more styles than just the basic “Cayman” style (the one that gave Crocs a bad rep…so ugly they’re cute?)…they have sandals that are pretty stylish for women and they are comfy too! My son loves his Crocs and can’t live without them either! My husband recently got a pair and he wears them too…I think he looks pretty cute in them…:o)
August 6th, 2008 at 11:30 am
I don’t particularly like them, but I did try on a pair that looked like Paula’s sexy crocs. I have to admit that they were pretty comfy, but I still wouldn’t buy/wear them.
I think they should be reserved for people who are on their feet all day and need the foot support like people in the medical profession. I’ve seen tons of nurses and doctors strutting around in these at the hospitals.

Hey, KDogg, thanks for the link!

I dont really care what people wear, and actually I thought it was a good idea to polarize the market like that. But the trend does appear to fading, as evidenced from the earnings reports and stock decline.

0o0o0o0o0o0o Paula, those are quite chic!
August 6th, 2008 at 2:41 pm
Not the most best looking foot wear but like to wear them to surf, outside around the house to wash dogs and cars (dries fast and easy to slip on and off) and one pair to wear in the house (when feet feeling sore).
August 6th, 2008 at 6:33 pm
I don’t particularly like them, but I like the little accessories that you can get to put in the holes in the crocs. Of course, it’s retailers way of making you spend more…
August 6th, 2008 at 10:34 pm
PAULA: Only you could make Crocs sexy. Bronze? You brazen hussy! Ruff!
August 6th, 2008 at 10:41 pm
PS: etymological note- Brazen Hussy- circa 1940. Something my grandmother would call any woman who turned my grandfather’s head. Also see: brazenhussy.ca

I’d love to get me a pair of those Presidential socks that Bush is wearing.
August 7th, 2008 at 7:41 pm
Look out Maxine! (Hallmark’s old lady card character)
August 21st, 2008 at 12:23 am
I got them for a foot condition and they make a world of difference!
Mine don’t have all of those holes and they are black. Crocs Rx.
They are great!!
August 21st, 2008 at 3:06 am
I simply buy my Crocs for comfort. My feet hurt but since I have been wearing them——-proof is in the pudding. I think they are the ugliest shoe I have ever seen! I intend to buy another pair.
Put the vanity aside and just try them. You will be glad you did if you have foot issues.
August 21st, 2008 at 5:42 am
They are one of the best things I’ve tried for foot related injury/illnesses short of pain relievers. I have a heel spur and they support the arch of the foot enough to relive the pressure off of the heel. Not that this is a cure for the spur, but it sure helps relieve the awful pain. And I wear footies or socks so I don’t get the sweats. They’re great!
August 21st, 2008 at 5:50 am
P.S. I’ve got 5 pairs. Turquoise, orange, magenta, gold, and black. And they’re all decked out with coordinating jewelry! Don’t down-play fashion for the oldies, I’m 50 something!
August 21st, 2008 at 9:39 am
Love ‘em, love ‘em, love ‘em, ’nuff said!
Seriously though I have 8 back surgeries in the last 12 years and live with constant nerve pain from all that. The Crocs do more for my back than any pain relievers or any other kind of shoe. I wear mine absolutely everywhere unless it is an occasion where dress shoes are required!
August 21st, 2008 at 9:41 am
I love my crocs especially the sandals. BTW what’s the fixation with hating them? Like most of you who hate them don’t have anything better to do with your time? I mean really get a life!

I love these sandals, very comfy but dangerous! My daughter were wearing them at the mall and her crocs got caught in the escalator.
Good thing she did not get hurt. My husband had to pull them out
and both front sandals were ripped!
August 21st, 2008 at 12:57 pm
My 78 year old dad stepped on a wet garage floor and his croc clad feet went right out from under him, and he fell flat on his back. Fortunately he was not injured!!! Crocs are not safe to wear in wet conditions!
August 21st, 2008 at 1:53 pm
i dont know hiow people can wear those ugly thing it okay or kids but for grunnuops who wold want to wear ruber shoe and who would want sweety feet that smell
August 21st, 2008 at 4:17 pm
Mumu for feet..and they stink!!!
August 21st, 2008 at 6:21 pm
They are the best invention of this century. I have never worn a pair of shoes that are more comfortable. Great for back problems. I am a swimmer, and love them when I get out of the pool. I wear them shopping and anywhere that I have to be on my feet for long periods of time. They are allowed where I work, in a small hometown office. Everyone wears them and loves them.
August 21st, 2008 at 6:24 pm
Oh, and as far as getting caught in an escalator, should we rule out shoes with laces? come on. You should watch your step wherever you are.
